Narai Station lies in the outskirt of the town. 【⇒A Picture-Map of Narai town】
In many case the railway stations were built in the peripheries of the cities. Because it was difficult to build the station in the place which had been crowded with many houses since old days.
But in time many shops would be built around the station which is the base of the transportation, and the shopping town-street linked with the center of the city would grow.
However Narai Station is standing alone about 70 meters away from the rows of town houses now. Then it has been helpful for maintaining the historical landscape of the Stage-Town.
The railway running through the narrow ravine has been the single line. The station has only one platform which has tracks on both sides of the platform for getting on and off the train. Then, for the platform is caught between two tracks, the passengers must walk upon the bridge over the railway to get out or in the station.
Walking away southwestward from the station, we find the rows of the Town-Houses on the both sides of the street. The rows is continuing along the road which rise very slightly. As it curves very gently, the street a few handreds meters ahead is becoming invisible. The nearer row of houses hides farhter one.
The degree of such slight rising and curving of the street gives the scenes ingenious depth, then people walking along the street are looking forward to coming landscapes.
How is the view ahead ? We would like to see how is the scene over there.... Such a expectation would make it joyful to walk along the street. Then let's inspect the architecture of the Town-Houses and keep to walk slowly, feeling the atmosphere of the town.
Walking from the Lower Town and approaching the Middle Town, the width of the road is getting wider. In the center of the town the road is by twice wider than in the Lower Town.
Then the width of the road is getting narrower after passing the Middle Town. The street turns in the shape of crank at the Crossing of Kaginote. Thereafter the inclination of the road is getting a little larger. And we would look onto the tall trees in Shizume Shrine over the street of the Upper Town..
Over there starts the mountain-way going over Torii Ridge-Pass.
