From Kamimachi to Nakamachi

  Many tourists come here, invited by the sunshine of the late autumn. As Nakamachi, where tourist shops and restaurants get together, is close to a main parking, it is a very popular and busy place.

Kamimachi and Nakamachi

  In Honjin of Tsumago Toiya -Office/ShopToiyaba and Jinba-Kaisho ― was established as an annex.
  It was the office managing transport-operation along Nakasendo. The members of the office as village officers was nominated by Owari clan under the control of Shogunate government.
  Some of them were called Toshiyori, the old men in Japanese, who supported the chief of Toiya and take operational practices.

  Honjin was the official inn assigned by Shogunate governmant, Bakufu in Japanese, which was originally established on the base of the field-headquarter in the war-age.
  They serviced for the Bakufu-officers and the clan-lords travelling on Kaido without fee, as the cost for the services was tax.
  Waki-Honjin which assisted Honjin stands across the road. Waki-Honjin had to accepted the customers spilling over a capcity of Honjin.
  In Tsumago town the Hayashis, as Waki-Honjin was taking a role of Toiya chief.

  Now the area from here to Shimomachi is the core from the view point of tourist-business. Many restaurants and craft shops, whose houses has kept the traditional architecture, are standing side by side there.
  From the atmosphere of the area, most habitants would be taking parts of tourism. Then they care about keeping the townscape which is attracting and inviting tourists.
  They take care about tiny gardens and plants along the street which form the beautiful landscape.
